Our Story

At age 18, Russell Wright secured an apprenticeship with Colchester Engineering. After 12 years of working there, he purchased the company.

They spent around 13 years in the Old Cheese Factory on Farmers Road and in 2001 moved into their own purpose-built workshop in Waihou Street, in the Matamata Industrial Subdivision.

Over the years we have gone from being primarily a Machine Shop to around 50/50 Machining and Welding/Fabrication. As well as taking on day by day general jobbing work we also undertake larger projects and over the years have built a reputation as manufacturers of quality machinery.

Over the years Leanne has also worked in the office in between bringing up their three boys.

In 2004 Bradley Wright (son of Russell) started after school doing general duties in the workshop. In 2006 Bradley became a full time apprentice at Colchester Engineering Limited. He has worked his way up over the years and is now the managing director.

In March 2015 Russell officially took a step back with Bradley buying shares in the company. He has taken over most of the managing duties with Russell now being the Operations Advisor. In 2018 Bradley completed CAD drawing and design which brings a new and exciting service to the business.
